Describe the Struggle for Democratic Government in Latin America

The struggle in Latin America for a democratic republic is the following: stability. With the government having been changed for the last century its a big leap. From once having to be ruled under a president that censor free speech and punished dissent. And having to be ruled under a military and caudillo, a military boss. Now Latin America is striving for democracy and has set up three goals to set stability up for it. Women roles in politics, land reform, and to establish a constitutional government.

MAIN IDEAS (247)

a.  The rain forest has a abundant amount of resources such as the following: vegetation helps clean the atmosphere, regulate climate, and shelter millions of animals, insects, and other species.

b. Resulting of the destruction of the rainforest millions of species are left homeless, or left for dead. As well as the intake of carbon by these rainforests decreasing rapidly. Plants in rain forests can also be used for medical purposes or for scientist to further explanation of life or their thesis(or whatever they're doing experiments for).

c.  Factors that could slow the destruction of the rainforest is the debt-for-nature swap, and the restriction of economic development until people can find the right balance between economic growth and the preservation of the rain forests.

4.  With the way the world is turning out now, how the people are choosing, its a simple as one sentence, or one word: suicide. We are tying the noose around our own neck, Mother Earth will survive we won't. The rainforests will be extinct to a certain point and humans will have to adapt again. We need the rainforest for numerous things; carbon dioxide intake, medical research, holding animals and other species.

Main Ideas...Idiot

Landforms and Resources (pp.201-206)

1.  Since the Andes have created a barrier, along with having many active volcanoes, the movement has been pushed to the interior for settlements.

2. Plains and grasslands are used for raising livestock and rich soil for growing crops.

3. Bahamas, Greater Antilles or Lesser Antilles

4. Mexico and Venezuela because of their "important" resource the economy has been impacted by the cost of oil.

5. Savannas are found in Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina.

6. Several advantages occur from vertical climate zones including increased crop production, protection from weather related problems, conservation of resources, organic crops, and water recycling.

7. Tropical Rainforest, mostly trees.

8. The soil is no longer fertile, meaning, nothing can grow there anymore; trees are needed to get rid of carbon in the air. So if you take away trees, what's left?  Carbon is left, providing more global warning.

9. The "pull" factors include higher-paying jobs, better schools, and better medical care.

10. "An obvious gap between rich tourists and less well-off local residents; this has produced resentment and hostility in places such as Jamaica in the Caribbean and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Governments can run up large public debts by borrowing money to build tourist facilities."

Venezuela

1) What climate zones and vegetation exists in your country?
Venezuela lies between two tropics, it varies from tropical humid to alpine depending on its elevation, topography, and the direction of prevailing winds.   Venezuela, dued to where it's located, is mostly covered in forest. But resulting from deforestation and natural causes it has a varied vegetation, such as: savannahs, thorny shrubs and cactus, scrub and brush, and very little land of mangrove.

2) Explain the important resources of the area.  Also any river systems, mountain systems, or plains that run through your country.
The Venezuelan economy is based primarily on the production and exploitation of petroleum. Venezuela’s topography can be divided into three broad elevational divisions: the lowland plains, mountains, and the interior forested uplands.  The Orinoco river , as well, runs through Venezuela.

3) What do most people in your country do for a living?
In Venezuela the drop of oil prices declined many jobs for the Venezuelans. The poor relied on the government to pay for basic food and transportation. Farming and cattle ranching are major sources of jobs in rural areas. People also work in factories, mining is important, and doctors lawyers are in demand. Venezuelans are really great writers, painters, poets, and musicians. Their favorite sport in Venezuela is soccer, and in the coastal areas water sports like swimming, fishing, and boating are really popular.4) What is the largest city?
Venezuela's largest city is their capital, Caracas.

5) What is the capital city?
Caracas is the capital city of Venezuela.

6) Find a map and paste it in your blog.

7) Does your country face any problems - economy (think Bolivia) or environmental (Brazil) or other?

Venezuela has a number of problems today, here are a few: Venezuela's unemployment rate has continues to rise; it stands at 12.1 percent. Crime in Venezuela also has become a big issue there, in 2011 more than 19,000 people were killed, making 2011 the most violent year in the country's history. Housing and infrastructure is also a problem, homes are being being seized and privatized, housing is now one of their top concerns. Infrastructure has crumbled in Venezuela, reportedly Venezuela has the most obsolete air fleet in the Americas.
Corruption is another problem it afflicts the police and military, who are often bribed by drug traffickers. Corruption has also affected the government turning the government into a de facto dictatorship. Freedom of press is another problem, even though the press are guaranteed by Venezuela's constitution, in reality media face harassment if they report anything in opposition to Hugo Chavez's administration, Chavez died a year old from cancer. The ' eternal commander" is still putting on a shower, his voice of him singing are heard loud from the mausoleum entrance.

Questions(?) I Think Not!

1) What did you learn from the video?  Do you think its fair that a corporation can own a country's water?
I don't think it's fair at all! I think its stupid and insane, companies owning water? You cannot own water, it's nobody's to own... it repeats a cycle how can you own it! Your water could end up in a different part of the world! Society will easily fall apart! Water is water, it cannot be own...it is for the public not the private.
2) Do you think the people of Bolivia had a right to react the way they did?
Of course the people had the right to act like they did! It makes sense, if you steal something and make it yours, like water, and make people buy it back...that will upset the people. You're just asking for protests! The bottom line is, you cannot take something from the people when it is rightfully anyones and not one persons alone!
3) How has geography affected settlement in Latin America?
Since Latin America has three types of grasslands its perfect for agricultural needs, they also are the world leading mineral leaders. The Amazon River, the largest river in the world, is also located in this region. The Andes Mountain also prohibited land from settlement because of the hills and rocky lands.
4) Where are the Andes Mountains located?
The Andes Mountains are located north to south along the western coast of the continent.

The Amazon River carries more water to the ocean.
7) What are the three major island groups in the Caribbean Islands?
The Bahama, the Greater Antilles and the Lesser Antilles.
8) What are Llanos?
Llanos are grassy, treeless area used for livestock grazing and farming.
9) What are three types of resources found in Latin America?
The three types of resources in Latin America are minerals, hydroelectric power, and agriculture.
10) What S. American country generates the most hydroelectric power and why?
Brazil because the Amazon River is located in Brazil.
11) What types of landforms are found in Latin America?
Landforms in Latin America are highlands, mountains, rivers, lowlands, and plains.
12) What is your favorite South American country?
Peru would be one of my favorite places in South America. It is rich in our ancient history,  The Inca Empire and later the major viceroyalty of Spanish South America. THe only reason I mention Peru is because the photography of the Inca ruins. It inspires me to actually learn some stuff about Peru. Plus, Peru has beautiful beaches, the llamas(!), and magnificent landscape.
